Mile Oak is lucky to have extensive school grounds, in which we have been able to develop different areas to enrich children's learning and provide them with opportunities beyond the classroom.

In addition to our playgrounds, and large school field, the school has:

  • a central beach garden area with raised beds, a story telling area, and a polytunnel.

  • a school orchard

  • a pond and wildlife area

  • a paved " quiet retreat" with picnic benches and a variety of "big games" to play.

With a dedicated Eco/Healthy School co-coordinator, Mile Oak prides itself on our approach to raising children's awareness in this area:

  • We have solar panels installed, which as well as saving over 32 tonnes of carbon emissions, enable us to fund a number of other initiatives.

  • We take part in the national Let's Get Cooking scheme.

  • We encourage children to walk, bike or scoot to school where possible, particularly during Bike It! week.

  • Every year we grow a range of vegetables which the children either cook and eat at school or take home to share.
